TOWN MEAD SPORTS and SOCIAL CLUB

IMPROVEMENTS

After over twelve months of construction work the extended and refurbished Town Mead Sports & Social Club re-opened in June this year.

The original single bar building opened by Waltham Abbey Town Council twelve years ago has undergone a complete transformation in order to provide superb facilities for its many members. Regular patrons will recall the single bar being very sport orientated, particularly on big match days when large groups of soccer fans would meet to watch their favourite team on the big screen television. Although a well used facility the Town Council was very aware of the need to provide a facility for those members who, whilst interested in sport, did not particularly want to sit in a crowded bar watching football. The Council also identified the need to provide a function room catering for events too small for venues such as the Cornmill Suite at the Town Hall and so the plan to create these facilities was spawned.

The result is a three facility venue providing –

Ø      The Sports Bar

Ø      The Lounge Bar

Ø      The Mead Suite function room catering for 80

The Sports Bar is the original bar slightly reduced in size and completely refurbished including a new front and back bar. The Lounge Bar and Mead Suite form the extension to the building. The lounge seats thirty customers in well decorated surroundings on modern leather chairs and couches, the walls adorned with framed prints. Both bars have picture windows looking out over the 42 acre Town Mead Leisure Park. The Mead Suite is a self contained function room capable of seating 80 to 90 people, it has its own entrance, bar and  portable stage and sound system. If necessary double doors can be opened between the function room and the lounge creating a larger function area. All three rooms benefit from a state of the art kitchen and lunches are currently served from Monday to Saturday and customers can choose from two menus – a traditional pub style including daily specials prepared in-house by the resident cook and a Pizza and Pasta menu. All meals are freshly prepared as ordered and are reasonably priced. It is planned to extend the catering facility in the near future to include Sunday lunches and Friday and Saturday evening dining. During December a four course Christmas Lunch will be available Monday to Friday for works groups, etc at a very reasonable £12.95 per person, booking is essential. The manager Steve Maynard and his staff offer a warm welcome to customers.

If you want more information about any of these facilities or you want to book for Christmas Lunch then all it takes is a phone call to the Council’s Bars and Catering Manager Steve Maynard on 01992 710426
