The Monte Carlo Rally is celebrating its centenary in 2011, and as part of the celebrations, the classic car rally to Monte Carlo is starting from three different cities. In the UK, the start flag is waved in Glasgow. Waltham Abbey has been chosen to be the one and only UK stopover point en route to crossing onto mainland Europe. Further details will be advised, with the event taking place on 27th January. Volunteer help will be needed. Look forward to seeing you then

I am so proud to be a resident of the Waltham Abbey community! I say this because on the 14th of November, the Waltham Abbey Church was lit up blue to highlight World Diabetes Day. Waltham Abbey participated in a competition held by the International Diabetes Federation to highlight World Diabetes Day worldwide. Our church looked stunning and I feel that we achieved my goal of bringing recognition of both diabetes and Waltham Abbey globally.

I would like to personally thank the Waltham Abbey Town Council (in particular Richard James and Ken Coates) as well as the members of the church who agreed to my request to light up a building blue and who assisted me in getting this arranged. I understand that this was a really difficult task and I am most appreciative of the effort given and the successful lighting of the Abbey. Well done Waltham Abbey!
Fiona Faure
